"Biarlah jodoh berkekalan sehingga ke langit syurga."
So Kim and Ernie are home from their escapade. Lol.
And boy let me tell you.... Bali was up to expectations.... and WAY more!! Despite the initial hassles and nerve-wracking moments with the travel agency and the delays.... it was well worth it.
We were up at 6+ to catch the train and bus to the LCCT. Got there in good time... but....
Check out the balik kampung crowd. The counters for Indonesia at the terminal was jam packed!!!!
On board our plane... thank God there were no delays, and no problems with our bookings.
And please excuse my un-made-up face. =.= Damn bloody lazy lah.... who wants to go gum fake eyelashes at 6am with no shoot.... pfft.
View from our seat, flying over Indonesia
Beautiful blue skies and sea!
And upon touchdown in Despasar, Bali, things went smoothly thru immigration and also thru the H1N1 screening thingie... and we also managed to locate our guide/driver, Dewa. Yup... I've been making calls and emailing Indonesia for the past two months to secure us a guide, and have a good itinerary planned out for us. And believe me, in Bali, it is worth every penny to have your own driver.
One of the majestic statues along the roads of Denpasar
Before checking in, Dewa brought us to a humble roadside store to sample Bali's famous babi guling!
A very small, narrow and dingy shop it was....
But according to Ernie... the food was absolutely divine. Yup... this is the babi guling platter... with the crispy sucking pig, deep fried pig skin and pork fat... and some other condiments... like the coconut+chicken satay-looking thing.
Pretty damn worth it too... came with the rice, side dishes and soup...
And the teh botol everyone was telling us to try. Pretty good stuff... like lightly sweetened, strong jasmine tea.
Oh and this is the ayam betutu I thought I'd have since I don't eat pork... I had no idea what it was apart from that it was recommended on some travel sites....
They even serve it up with the head intact. Eww.
Didn't taste as good as I expected either so yea... =/
And here we are at the airy lobby of Holiday Inn Baruna Bali. Very laid back... an ideal resort hotel and not at all like one of those posh, uptight places. Thankful to get here after the exhausting 3 hour flight...
Security was pretty tight too, no thanks to the recent bomb scares in Jakarta. Every single car was checked before being cleared for entry, and they would also pass these sensor things over your bags and stuff....
Oh yea. And did I mention we got an UPGRADE? ;) Yup. From a double room... we got a Garden Room... complete with complimentary breakfast which our previous reservation didn't have!
The entire hotel had a refreshing air, with many open-air areas allowing the sun in, and water features and real trees throughout the entire ground floor. The glass-panelled corridors on the upper floors were also all open to these areas and it felt really nice walking along them... it really, REALLY felt like we were away from everything else and in paradise!
And ta-dah!! Here is our home for the next 3 nights!
Mmmm... a king-sized bed with luxurious sheets. Lots of room for cuddles and kisses! :D
The view from the balcony... hence the name "Garden Room".
Ernie was so thrilled about the huge flatscreen TV and the many many MANY channels... oh and the DVD player too!
Huhu.... typical honeymooner's hotel room. The bathroom has glass walls... can be looked into from the bedroom. :D Ooooh naked man. Yum.
:P
My baby chilling and being a couch potato already. Haha
Well after our tiring flight and being on the go since 6am... we weren't up for so much sight-seeing yet. So to refresh and be geared into relaxation mode... Dewa brought us to a local spa for some pampering. It was a first time for both Ernie and I and I must say it really was something!
Outside, where patrons would have their feet washed and scrubbed in flower petals, essential oils and warm water before proceeding into the private rooms.
Our massage room, where we stripped down and subjected ourselves to two hours of traditional Balinese massages, a full body scrub, a milk bath and finally finishing off with a warm shower, flower bath, and were also served refreshing ginger tea. It was quite a steal at the price of 350,000 rupiah (approx RM120) per couple, for so much stuff!! Ooooh and the milk bath was the most delicious-smelling thing ever....
The choices of essential oils and scrubs
Lol and everyone thought we were here on honeymoon... and the lady assigned to Ernie commented that "my husband" had a body like Rambo. XD
So after the superb treatment at the spa... it was only appropriate to follow up with a wonderfully romantic dinner at Jimbaran Bay.
Another popular haunt for honeymooning couples...
What could be more perfect than a candlelight dinner on the sands, listening to the crashing waves, and catching a spectacular sunset?
Nightfall... a live band began playing also further into the evening.
Our dinner which comprised mainly of ikan bakar. And they also have it served up with this really great, buttery garlic sauce that I absolutely loved!!!!!!
Back to the hotel... damn cool kan they have a real flame torch!!
Later in the night we took a walk to the busy, happening town of Kuta where we found this little Mexican restaurant called Chi-Chi's.
Very cosy ambience.... and like most of the food in Bali..... CHEAP!!!!!
This generous helping of nachos cost, what, less that RM10??
Ei you know lah how expensive this thing is at places like Chillis and Frontera... and it's the same good stuff too - the same beef bits, the same jalapenos, the same beans and sauce.... the same everything!!!
So that's pretty much our Day 1 in Bali. I'd love to stick around and blog some more... but I got some pretty backdated work to do cos of my absence from uni, and I really should get to it now. So let this post be some sort of a teaser, and do expect more photos over the next few days. :)
Stay tuned for Part 2 of our adventures in paradise!!
